Men's vs. Women's Dirt Bike Gear - What's the Difference?

Men's vs. Women's Dirt Bike Gear - What's the Difference?

It's an understandable question since up until this point there really hasn't been a difference... since no one has made women-specific gear...

See where I'm going with this?

In addition to lack of options, you may have been tempted to buy men’s gear simply due to typically lower prices; BUT, before you make that decision, it’s important to understand the differences in fit, sizing, and design between women's and men's gear.

The Importance of Proper Fit

The first thing you need to know is that dirt bike gear for women is not just a smaller version of men’s gear. It's designed specifically for the female body shape which tends to be narrower at the waist and broader at the hips compared to men. This means that women's dirt bike gear will provide a better fit for most females than their male counterparts.

Proper fit is crucial when it comes to safety while riding. Ill-fitting gear can cause discomfort, restrict movement, and even compromise your safety.

Sizing Differences Between Men's and Women's Motocross Gear

When it comes to sizing differences between men’s and women’s dirt bike gear, womens sizes tend to run smaller than mens. For example, a medium-sized women’s jacket will be smaller than a medium-sized men’s jacket.

MCREY's line of women's dirt bike pants are designed with a higher rise (the distance from the middle of the crotch seam to the top of the waistband) than men's pants. This accommodates for women's generally longer torso-to-leg ratio compared to men, and an all-around more flattering fit for our curves.

It's also worth noting that women's dirt bike boots are usually narrower than men's, with a smaller toe box. This is because women generally have narrower feet than men.

Design and Aesthetic Differences

Beyond fit and sizing, there are also design differences between men’s and women’s dirt bike gear. Women's gear features more feminine and organic colors and patterns, while men’s gear tends to be more bold and masculine in design.

However, the choice of design is largely a matter of personal preference. Some women prefer the feminine designs, while others opt for the bold designs typically found in men’s gear.

Choosing the Right Gear: What to Consider

When choosing your dirt bike gear, it's important to try on different sizes and styles to find what works best for you. Here are a few things to consider:

  1. Fit: As mentioned earlier, your gear should fit well without being too tight or too loose. It should allow for full range of motion without restricting your movement.
  2. Comfort: Comfort is key when it comes to dirt bike gear. You'll be wearing this gear for extended periods of time, so it needs to feel good on your body.
  3. Protection: Dirt bike gear can help protect you during rides and in case of accidents. Make sure your helmet, jacket, gloves, and boots offer adequate protection. While your jersey and pants aren't considered protective gear and shouldn't be treated as such, they can help provide protection.
  4. Style: While style is secondary to safety and comfort, it's still important for many riders... especially us ladies! Choose gear that reflects your personality and makes you feel confident.

Remember that everyone's body shape is unique, so what works for one woman might not work for another. Don't be afraid to try on different sizes and styles until you find the perfect gear for you. At MCREY, we offer a solid 30-day return/refund policy if you don't love your gear. Happy riding!
